W*USA 9 is the official television sponsor of the 2011 Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure
"As we enter another year of working with Susan G. Komen For The Cure on this momentous event, all of us at W*USA 9 are once again energized by the opportunity to continue our year-round relationship with this outstanding organization, one that continues to affect countless lives," says Allan Horlick, W*USA-TV President and General Manager.
This year's race is slated for Saturday, June 4, 2011, on the National Mall. W*USA 9 has been at the forefront in educating viewers about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Buddy Check 9, the station's own breast cancer awareness program, was launched in 1993 and 9NEWS NOW Anchor Andrea Roane has been relentless in sending the message to the entire Metropolitan Washington community.

"Are you ready to go the distance?
"Buddy Check 9 is ready and set to go the distance partnering once again this year with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to stop breast cancer.
"I am extremely proud of the role Buddy Check 9 has played in educating women & men about how to reduce their cancer risks, the strides made in breast cancer research and new treatments. But we still have not reached our ultimate goal.
"While tremendous progress has been made in the fight, people are still dying from breast cancer-and that's unacceptable. Susan G. Komen for the Cure is working every minute of every day to save every life, and they need our help---yours and mine.
"Register now for the Komen Global Race For the Cure taking place the first Saturday in June on the National Mall.
"I look forward to seeing all of you and giving and getting hugs from survivors, co-survivors, relatives and Buddies who will gather for this incredible show of support & resolve.
"We have the scientific tools and technology in place. After 30-years, the time is now to Honor the Promise Nancy G. Brinker made to her sister, Susan G. Komen, and put all the pieces together to end breast cancer forever.
"See you in June at the Komen Global Race For the Cure on the National Mall!"
